Harry Potter Studio Tour: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Magic
Plan and Organize Your Visit
Since Clara is a huge Harry potter fan, the whole trip was build around visiting Warner Bros Studios. So 2 months prior to our travel i’ve checked the availability and book our tickets. Keep in mind these are selling fast, because even if we booked it that early a lot of time slots where already sold.
We opted for the regular entrance, but you have the option to book other combo packages that have guided tours or holiday activities like Christmas at Hogwarts or Dark Arts features. Also some deals include transportation if you’re not driving.
Our time slot was 4:30 PM, so we had plenty of time to kill before that. Having a car rental, we decided to start early and also visit Woburn Safari, about 35km from Watford, the place where Warner Bros Studios lies. Otherwise check the train timetable so you reach then place in time, at least 30 mins prior to your slot since most likely crowds will be waiting you.
The Tour
After a 30 mins drive, we reached the Harry Potter car park, a huge place. Joined the cue and after just a few minutes we were in, along with our activity passports which allows you to collect stamps as you go through the attractions—a fun keepsake, especially for Clara!
- The Entrance Hall features iconic characters like Batman and Wonder Woman, but the main attraction is the towering Gringotts dragon, which is an absolute showstopper—perfect for that Instagram-worthy shot.
- The Anteroom: The journey starts in a room filled with Harry Potter movie posters. An engaging presentation introduces the studio’s history and film making magic, setting the tone for your adventure. You’ll wait here for about 10–15 minutes before the excitement builds further.
- The Great Hall: As the doors open, you’ll step into Hogwarts’ iconic Great Hall. The long dining tables are set with authentic props, and you’ll spot the robes of the Hogwarts houses alongside figures of Dumbledore and other professors. It feels like you’re walking into a feast straight out of the movies. This is probably one of the best place from the whole tour with a real immersive atmosphere which all of us loved.
- Green Screen Experience: Here you have a few options to take some funny pictures either flying on a broomstick or be placed on a Wanted Poster. It’s a great keepsake for any fan and also a place to have some fun, Clara loved it!
- Dark Arts: Here we witnessed a dark representation of the Wizarding World with eerie displays featuring Dementors and Death Eaters. Clara fearlessly took on iconic villains like Bellatrix Lestrange and Voldemort, proving she was ready for any magical duel!
- Platform 9 3/4: This is also had some icon scenes and props like the half-trolley through the wall at the magical platform or boarding the Hogwarts Express for a short but nostalgic train experience.
Basically, we were halfway through our journey and strategically decided to take a break to enjoy a well-deserved lunch at the Backlot Café. Here we spent about 45 mins, moments in which we organized the rest of the tour.
- The Backlot: The sun was almost over, therefor the lights kicked in in the lot giving an even more authentic feeling. We explored the sets of the Knight Bus, 4 Privet Drive, and the towering chess pieces from The Philosopher’s Stone. Also Clara tried to pull up a Mandrake, but after all her grunting and the plant’s screaming, she muttered, “This one must be glued in!”
- Behind-the-Scenes Sets & Props: The tour continues inside with a variety of beautifully crafted sets like Dumbledore’s Office, the Potions Classroom, and the spellbinding Great Hall. You could spend hours to admire wands, costumes or other props used in the movies. Dobby avatar was a delight for Clara.
- The Model Room: Our journey ended with the breathtaking Hogwarts Castle model. Its intricate details were absolutely mesmerizing, making it a magical and unforgettable finale to the visit.
Last but not least, before exiting and hitting the store, a jolly member of the studio crew offered to take some photos for us as a family of wizards :). Since we were among the last visitors, we ended up having an extended photo session with around 100 shots. Kudos to him!
This 4-hour tour was truly amazing and part of the bucket list for any Harry Potter fan. Next stop for Clara is the Universal Studio LA, where a real life-size Hogwars Castle awaits her.
Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.
